It was held this weekend in the city of Maia, the Portuguese Gasshuku guided by Sensei Jorge Monteiro (National Chief Instructor) and Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura (World Chief Instructor). This Gasshuku was atttanded by 1400 participants becoming the biggest event ever organized by IOGKF Portugal (APOGK).
Sensei Nakamura was visibly happy in the 3 days of the Gasshuku because according to him he was meeting friends and to IOGKF ‘family’ there are no borders. He also expressed his admiration for the work of IOGKF Portugal and the leadership of the National Chief Instructor Sensei Jorge Monteiro.
This Gasshuku, entirely dedicated to Kata, bunkai and basic movements, was a unique learning opportunity and was attended once again by karatecas from across the country. In this event were also honored instructors and students with 25 years of training.
Sensei Jorge Monteiro explained the responsibility of each one to contribute to the preservation of traditional karate for future generations and that this treasure that is the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Do only came to us thanks to the sacrifices, effort and commitment of Sensei Kanryo Higaonna, Sensei Chojun Miyagi, Sensei Anichi Miyagi and Sensei Morio Higaonna. He believes that this cultural heritage is in good hands with Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura for his technical ability but also for the ability to develop true bonds of friendship and empathy with all IOGKF members.
